His Something

Written on October 13, 2011

A church friend sat in my livingroom and said: “God is up to something, and I want to be in His Something!”
How quotable!!

Faith seems to require this of us: Do we really believe God has a Something?

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.”
Later, “but without faith it is impossible to please Him, for He who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Heb 11:1,2,6).

When we pray for others, we must believe there is Something they are going to gain from our prayers to God for them (Eph 6:18).

I never quite understood James 1:5-8 where the overabundant liberal, willingly-giving God shuts down where there is doubt. Doubt means “double-minded, two-faced, going two different directions.” We must believe God has a Solution. TheĀ focus of our personal lives apparently determines the confidence and assurance that there is a solution.

Ps 145:18: “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.” This word for “truth” is often “sincerity,” but originally meaning “firmness, sureness, reliability, stability, continuance…”

“This is the CONFIDENCE that we have in Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us; and if we know that He hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him” (1 John 5:14,15). ‘The Holy Spirit beyond a doubt put into the Bible to encourage our faith. It begins with “This is the CONFIDENCE that we have in Him,” and closes with “We KNOW that we have the petitions that we desired of Him…(RA Torrey).’”

With greater sureness and reliability than ever brought to His throne, let’s confidently dive into this Something, this Solution.
